Over 5,000 Applicants Writes 2018 Ascon Exams In Ogun

No fewer than 5,000 candidates, comprising of new applicants seeking employment and sub-cadres seeking upgrading in Ogun State civil service, sat for the first phase of the 2018 Public Service Examination, conducted by the Administrative Staff of College of Nigeria (ASCON).

Speaking during the exercise held at the former Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ojere, Abeokuta, the Commissioner in the State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Surajudeen Olusesi, disclosed that the exercise is an entrance point for those seeking appointments into the civil service.

He explained that the applicants who sat for the exams cuts across various cadres, adding that the successful ones would occupy vacant positions earlier indicated by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), within the Ogun State Civil Service.

He commended the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration for fulfilling his campaign promise to provide jobs for qualified graduates in the State, affirming that a good number of graduates had been engaged on yearly basis, since the inception of the administration in 2011.

‘’We must commend the present administration for fulfilling its campaign promises of providing employment for the teeming youths in the State, despite unfriendly economic situations of the country, we know that some States are owing their workers but here in Ogun State we are not owing but rather we are employing more hands.’’ He said.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Ajibola Chokor, said the exercise was meant to screen the candidates, so as to get the best and most outstanding ones to fill existing vacancies in the civil service, while serving Officers seeking upgrading into higher cadres, haven acquired higher certificates in the course of service to become more capable to work in the civil service were also accommodated.

The Team Leader from ASCON, Director of Studies, Head and Leadership Department, Dr. Tahir Abah Fagge described the 2018 exercise as hitch free, saying that despite the huge number of participants, the candidates comport themselves in a good manner.

He commended the Ogun State Civil Service Commission for perfect arrangement and logistic support put in place at ensuring a successful conduct of the 2018 exercise.

One of the participants, Mr. Adedeji Ebenezer also commended the organisers for the conducive environment, expressing the hope to come out with good result.
