Over 20 Ogun State Athelets from different games has been call to National Camp for their outstanding performance at the just concluded National Youth Game in Ilorin, as Ministry boosted the state IGR with 7.1 Million
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuape made this known while playing host to Members of Ogun State House Assembly during their oversight function/appraisal of year 2017 Budget held at the Ministry’s Conference Room at MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Afuape said out of over 20 of the atheletes that was invited to Natiinal Camp 13 was discovered during the elimination stage in Ibadan, while the rest was captured at the just concluded NYG in Ilorin, He added that one of the Athelets Bantefa Yinka was presently the best in Nigeria in 400 and 800 meter race.
He said MKO Abiola International Stadium Abeokuta made an IGR of 4.3 Million while Ijebu Ode Stadium was 2.8, adding that apart from Ijebu Stadium and MKO, the Ministry its self hit IGR of 660 Thousand naira as at August, 2017.
Speaking on Gateway United Football Club (GUFC), Afuape said the termination of appointment of all the technical crew was done in the best interest of the State and the players, saying that battle for superiority amongst the crew was beginning to divide and affecting the players phycologically.
Responding the Chairman House Committee on Youth, Sports and employment Generation, Hon.Ayodeji Ganiyu encouraged the Management of the Ministry to put more effort at boosting the IGR over the present 60% it was.
While urging the General Manager, GUFC, Mr. Onatolu Adetunji to try anything humanly possible to take GUFC to the next level and make the state proud, Ayodeji said he expect better performance in areas that are key in the next fiscal year.
