Ogun Sensitizes Public Against Environmental Infractions

The Ogun State government has taken another precautionary step at reducing environmental infractions being committed by the people to the barest minimum through sensitization in order to make the state cleaner and more environment-friendly as a growing industrial hub.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Bolaji Oyeleye, during the sensitization programme at Sango-Ota in Ado/Ota  Local Government Area of the State, said the Ministry had begun the campaign on proper waste disposal methods, noting that there have been improvements in the people’s environmental culture since it began last week.

He disclosed that two gangs had been set up in conjunction with the local authorities in the area to clean up the Ogun Standard Roads in Ota and Sango-Ijoko axis.

Oyeleye added that, while government was working at ensuring that new shops and stalls were provided for traders in Sango-Ota, noted that the exercise would continue for the rest of the month.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy, Chief Jide Ojuko, who was part of the campaign exercise, noted that refuse management was one of the attendant challenges that comes with rapid population growth in Ota, adding that government would ensure that sanity was maintained in the area.

On his part, the Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Dele Adeniji, thanked the State Government for its intervention at ensuring that Ota was clean, saying that his administration along with the LCDAs in the area would collaborate to achieve the set goals of making the environment more attractive and habitable for all.
