OGHA Condoles With Late Speaker’s Family

oghaOgun State House Assembly has commiserated with the family of a former
Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon. Stephen  Afolabi Sokoya ,
describing him as an embodiment of humility, residence and selfless
service.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi who gave the description
while announcing the death of the former legislator at the plenary,
lamented that the late Sokoya who celebrated her 84th birthday last
month died when his wealth of experience was needed most.
Adekunbi said the exit of the lawmaker who was the Assembly Speaker
between 1992 to 1993 was a great loss to the State and the nation, but
the deceased family and the State were consoled that he lived a life
worthy of emulation.
He later constituted a four -man burial Committee led by his Deputy,
Hon. Tola Banjo to liaise with the Family to give a befitting burial
to the late lawmaker.
Other members of the Committee are Honourables Abiodun Akovoyon,
Olusola Sonuga and Babatunde Edunjobi are members. One minute silence
was later observed in honour of the former Speaker.
Meanwhile, the four man delegation has visited the family of the late
Speaker, Hon. Sokoya at his Ilishan Remo residence.
Addressing members of the deceased’s family, leader of the team, Hon.
Tola Banjo said though the former Speaker died at a ripe age, however
his death came as a shock to the entire members of the Assembly.
Banjo, accompanied by Honourables Olayiwola Ojodu and Olusola Sonuga
recalled that the little interaction the deceased had with the
lawmakers during his 84th birthday celebration recently convinced them
that Pa Sokoya was full of knowledge.
While commiserating with the family, Hon Banjo prayed God to give them
the fortitude to bear the loss.
Responding, widow of the deceased, Senior Lady Evangelist, Morenikeji
Sokoya, and his sister, Mrs Esther Ogunesan thanked the delegation for
their concern and demonstration of love to the family.
