Mrs-Modupe-MujotaMathematics Teachers in Ogun State Public Schools have been charged to come up with new ways of making mathematics more interactive and fun-filled for students.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota who gave the charge while receiving the mathematics award won by the State at the 54th Annual Mathematical Conference at her office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, noted that the effort had become imperative to make it easier for students to understand the subject for better results.

Mujota said the association could do more to fine-tune modern skills in broadening students’ knowledge in the subjects, adding that her experience at the last summer camp where students were taught the subject using a game  known as ‘’race to infinity’’ showed that they would love the subject if it was made simple and interesting.

While lauding the efforts of the award winners, the Commissioner enjoined them to impart their skills and knowledge of the subject in their mates who still found the subject difficult.

“I charge you to take responsibility by teaching your mates what you have known; this doesn’t stop you improving on what you’ve known. Look for somebody in your class who is struggling with mathematics; look for a number of them and determine that you want to set up a small tutoring group where you can teach them,” Mujota said.

She said seeing students from public school becoming winners in national competitions was fascinating and a clear indication that the administration was getting it right.

Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of the Association, Rev. Emmanuel Adesina, appreciated the State Government for its support, saying the State won four awards out of the eighteen available for all the 36 States of the Federation.

Master Osilana Treasure from Remo Secondary School, Sagamu had won 2nd position in the Junior Olympiad Category of the Mathematics Association of Nigeria Competition.
