Halting Child Abuse A Collective Responsibility-OGSG

ogun state new logoWorried about the incessant cases of child abuse in Ogun, the State government has called upon residents to join hands with it to nip the menace in bud across the state.

This was the submission of the Director, Social Welfare Services in the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr Olumide Sotubo ,during a visit to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta to see a 5 year old girl, Iyanuoluwa Idowu who had been brutalized by her step-mother, Mrs Fatima Idowu.

Sotubo condemned the unjust treatment meted out to the young girl, saying Iyanuoluwa had suffered fracture on both arm and leg with laceration all over her body as a result of poor treatment by her stepmother affirming that the ministry had already assumed responsibility on the child.

Noting that government could not be everywhere at the same time, the Director said ‘’members of the public could be our (government) eyes wherever they are with an advice to parents to look after their ward and not to expose them to any form of child abuse’’, adding that the step mother was  in the police custody and would be charged to court.

According to Sotubo ‘’Parents should take proper care of their children and not expose them to any form of abuse as there is a law against child abuse and anyone found guilty of this would be prosecuted by law’’ adding that members of the public should disregard any publication or advertisement requesting them to contribute into any designate account for Iyanuoluwa’s bill..
