As part of activities marking the 60th birthday of Governor Ibikunle Amosun, the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), Ogun State chapter, has began free medical checkups and surgeries for citizens of the State.
Speaking at the flag off ceremony held at Ori-Omi, Ita-Iyalode, Abeokuta, tagged ‘’SIA 60 SURGERIES AT 60’’, the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga, called on residents of the State to take advantage of the exercise to ascertain their health status.
Onanuga, while appreciating the organisers for the gesture, said there was no better way to celebrate the Governor than what they have done, saying no other gift could have been well appreciated by the celebrant, who is a lover of the less privileged.
The Deputy Governor said, the present administration placed premium on the health of the people, hence the heavy investment in the health sector, in the last six years, pledging that it would continue to deploy available resources to the sector .
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Association, Dr. Olufemi Odusote, disclosed that the free medical and dental services was to show love to the Governor, who is celebrating his 60th birthday and to appreciate his efforts at improving the health care delivery system in the State.
Dr. Odusote said the medical outreach which had kick-started at Ogun Central Senatorial District, would be replicated in Ijebu-Ode, to carter for the people of Ogun East Senatorial District on January 30, while Ota/Ilaro would host the team on February 13, for the people of Ogun West.
Speaking, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, appreciated his colleagues for the outreach, saying it would complement government efforts at taking health care to the doorsteps of the people.
