Clean Environment, Our Priority-Comm.

Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment at ensuring a cleaner environment, not only in the market places, but across the length and breadth of the State.

Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Bolaji Oyeleye, made this known when he led the enforcement team of the Ministry to some major markets and areas in Abeokuta metropolis, assuring that government would double its efforts at ensuring compliance with the State’s Environmental Laws.

Mr Oyeleye who was represented by the Co-ordinator, Environmental Task Force (Team A), Mr Owolabi Oduntan, said the Ministry had embarked on constant monitoring of markets and other areas to enforce cleanliness in order to forestall outbreak of diseases, reaffirming that indiscriminate display of wares on walkways remained prohibited in the State.

“We will not relent until we achieve our aim, which is an environment free of dirt and unwanted element. A clean environment is essential for human existence and protecting it is paramount to the present administration,” Oduntan said.

He enjoined traders to desist from dumping refuse in drainages to avert the flooding predictions of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and Nigerian Hydrological Service Agency (NIHSA) in the State.

While urging residents to support government efforts at keeping the State clean at all times, Oyeleye informed that the Ministry’s Mechanical Road Sweeper would complement the efforts of street sweepers in ensuring that major roads in the State are clean and free from dirt.

A trader in Lafenwa Market, Mrs. Soaga Taiwo, commended the State government for its infrastructural development, calling on traders at the market to shun any act capable of truncating efforts of government at ensuring a clean environment.

Meanwhile, the State Government has issued an abatement notice to some owners of marketing containers at Omida market and a house at Ijemo Agbadu for constituting environmental nuisance.

The abatement notice was issued to those concerned  with a stern warning to rid the property of dirt, failing which, the properties would be   sealed off after 72 hours.
