Best Badminton Player Gets Employment In Ogun

Nigeria’s best Badminton player in the female category, Miss Dorcas Adesokan, has been given automatic employment in the Ogun State civil service, by the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

          The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuape who disclosed this while playing host to members of Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State chapter, at his office in Abeokuta, said the gesture was to appreciate Adesokan for making the State and Nigeria proud in the game.

          He said the player, currently on international engagement, had been adjudged the best in Nigeria, having defeated her opponents in various competitions, including, Kenya International Series 2013, where she won a gold and a bronze medals, All African Senior Championship (South African 2017), where she got three bronze medals and also at the 1st Mutual Assurance National Badminton Championship (Lagos 2017), with two Gold medals.

          Afuape said with the employment, government would be able to keep close tap on the athlete, for better grooming in subsequent competitions, adding that the best way to develop sports in the country was to discover more young talents, especially at the grassroots.

          He assured that such gesture would be extended to athletes in other fields of sport, pledging that government would continue to encourage youths in the State to showcase their talents in sporting activities, by providing standard facilities.
