Be Self-Reliant, Higher Institutions Charged

Tertiary institutions in Ogun State have been admonished to demonstrate capacity for self-reliance by depending less on government for their survival.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Modupe Mujota, who gave the advice in her address, at the opening of African Universities Innovation Acceleration Workshop, held in Abeokuta, charged them to identify and surmount their problems, as no challenge was insurmountable.

The Commissioner urged them to revise their curriculum, to enable their students acquire skills and vocational expertise, that are technologically inclined, which would in turn groom them to be self reliant after graduation.

She called on alumnus of various institutions to give back to their Alma Maters, as this would complement government’s efforts at sustaining set standard.

The Commissioner implored participants, especially Scientists, Researchers and technologically based participants, to tap into the knowledge gained at the workshop, to improve their daily activities.

Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer, Co-creation, a principal partner at the workshop, Mr. Bosun Tijani, said the workshop was organised to assist higher institutions in the State improve on their academic activities and meet societal changes,  through Information and Communication Technology.

Present at the event were, a member of the State House of Assembly, Honourable Victor Fasanya, Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT, MR. Bunmi Adebayo and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Alhaji Sefiu Rasheed.

The two day workshop, an off shoot of the recently held Technology Summit, drew participants from all tertiary institutions of the State.
